I thought you meant a Web API like a REST API. It is called through http and used by any language
For example do a “GET http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/xml?address=1600+Amphitheatre+Parkway,+Mountain+View,+CA&sensor=false”

I try the example on http://www.playlist-converter.net/tutorial/api but just get an empty result.
